Mustn’t and Needn’t (prohibition – lack of necessity)

Mustn’t

The negative form of must (must not or mustn’t) expresses the idea that something is prohibited (you aren’t allowed to do something / something is against the rules).

You mustn’t use bad language.
You mustn’t play with fire.

Don’t have to or needn’t

The negative form of have to (don’t have to) or needn’t expresses the idea that something is not required. So, there’s no need or necessity to do something.

You needn’t / don’t have to bring anything to the party.
You needn’t / don’t have to arrive before none o’clock.
